Manumesure involved in a study (led by INERIS) on the measurement of hydrochloric acid

A study to improve knowledge of hydrochloric acid measurement

A vast study called "EMPIR" (European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research) was launched in April 2021 with the participation of INERIS, the French National Institute for the industrial Environment and Risks.

The aim of this study is to improve knowledge of the measurement of hydrochloric acid (HCl) by manual methods (bubbling) and automatic methods (analyser) for low concentrations (< 10 mg/m3) in the context of reducing the limit values for emissions.

The goal of this campaign is to assess the performance of the standardized reference method (EN 1911 standard) at concentrations associated with BAT (Best Available Techniques).

The data generated during these inter-laboratory comparisons will help to assess the measurement uncertainties.

Expertise contributed to this study by Manumesure

MANUMESURE was contacted by INERIS to take part in this campaign alongside other laboratories because of its acknowledged metrological expertise.

MANUMESURE therefore travelled to the INERIS site at Verneuil-en-Halatte (Oise, France) to work on a test bench simulating the gases emitted by combustion and incineration installations.

The test bench was equipped with 12 sampling hatches and designed to generate a matrix of identical composition for each sample taken. 9 teams (laboratories) including Manumesure were able to participate simultaneously in these inter-laboratory comparisons.

Two measurements were made in parallel with two independent systems to determine the repeatability on each laboratory site.

The tests will be presented at the 20th  International Metrology Congress taking place in Lyon (France) from 7th to 9th September 2021 where Manumesure will be delighted to meet you on its stand.
